William "Bill" Barnes-Cox, 54, also known as "Bucky" to his family members, passed unexpectedly in his home in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Bill, born in Danville, Ill., was a graduate of SIU-Carbondale.
He married Dr. Randi Barnes-Cox in 1995 and the couple moved to Texas when his wife accepted a faculty position at Stephen F. Austin State University. Bill also was a member of the SFA staff as a graphic designer and media coordinator for the Office of Admissions.
Bill was a wonderful man who was as creative and artistic as he was kind. His wit demonstrated his intelligence and sensitivity. He was generous with his humor, always leaving his listener with the sense that they were better for having engaged him, even if only for a moment.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Cox.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Randi Barnes-Cox of Nacogdoches, Texas; his uncle Dow Cooksey, his sister Cathy (John) Oliver, his nephew John D. Oliver, all of Danville; his niece, Kelly (Daniel) Messmore of Peoria; many in-laws and cousins.
His burial already has taken place in Texas, however, a memorial service is being held at St. James United Methodist Church in the chapel.
Because of his love for gaming, especially Dungeons and Dragons, the family's requesting donations to the non-profit 826LA, which supports teaching creative writing through Dungeons and Dragons. The family is requesting that donations be made in his honor in lieu of flowers. Please go to https://826la.org/donate and use rcox@sfasu.edu in the honoree's email line.
