Edgewood, Kentucky - Shirley J. Lilly, age 85, of Edgewood, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, at Villa Springs in Erlanger, Kentucky.

She was born to the late Phillip and Mabel Huttsell on December 9, 1939 in Danville, IL.

A devoted wife, friend, and caregiver, Shirley was known for her thoughtfulness and compassionate heart. She dedicated many years of her life to being a Registered Nurse at St. Elizabeth. She not only cared for patients but also built lifelong friendships with a close-knit group of fellow retired nurses. Their regular luncheons were a treasured tradition filled with laughter, stories, and shared memories.

Shirley was a proud member of the Beta Sigma Phi social sorority, where her warm personality and generous spirit made her a beloved part of the sisterhood. Her love for animals was deeply rooted — she was known for welcoming stray cats into her home and giving them a place to belong.

An avid reader, Shirley had a particular interest in the history of the English crown, often immersing herself in books about the royals and the traditions of the monarchy.

Along with her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her sisters, Carol Pashel and Sharon Harris; and a dear friend, Barb Cunningham.

She was married to her beloved sweetheart, Sam Lilly, in 1969. Sam survives her, along with her sister, Connie (Arnold) Sumila of Westville, IL; a special friend, Mary Bein of Edgewood, KY; her dear niece, Angela (Kevin) Morrow; her two beloved cats, Jenny and Gabby; and several nieces and nephews. Shirley will be remembered for her caring nature, her quiet strength, and the deep love she gave so freely to people and animals alike.

A memorial gathering will be held by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Kenton County Animal Shelter or Women's Christ Center in Covington, Kentucky.
