Shirley Ann (Hankins) Nail, 70, of Oakwood, was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017. She was born Aug. 27, 1946, in Fountain County, Ind., to Lex and Mildred Louise (Loveall) Hankins. She graduated from Medaryville High School in 1964. She completed one year of modeling school before marrying the love of her life, John William Nail Jr. on Aug. 29, 1964 and he survives.

Also surviving are two daughters: Billie Jo (David) Ellis and Michelle (Alan) Houmes; four grandchildren: Austi Grayson, Atlanta and Makyah Houmes and Brandon (Lacey) Zaayer; five great-grandchildren: Ledger, Remy, Daylin, Denim and Dottie; three half-brothers: Larry D. (Robin) Sanders, Eldon D. "Buddy" Sanders and Jim D. Sanders; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a close nephew, Herbie. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents: William and Lucy Loveall, George O. and Goldie B. (Shell) Hankins; several aunts and uncles; her sister and brother-in-laws; and many special friends.

Shirley was a beautiful soul with a kind heart who was loved by all who knew her. She believed in God and loved her family. She devoted her life to her family, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren lovingly called her Mamaw. Shirley enjoyed everything that involved her family and attended ball games and school events whenever she could. She never missed a Grandparent's Day.

Shirley loved doing anything creative, including making Halloween costumes every year for her daughters. She would volunteer at their school to be a room mother, was active in the PTA, and was also a 4H leader. She enjoyed decorating cakes for family and friends, including making wedding cakes for both of her girls. Shirley loved playing games, especially cards with her card club, as well as taking bus trips with her husband and friends to Paradise Casino. Shirley loved with all her heart, always having a hug and a kiss for her family. She never knew a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand.

Visitation will be on Sunday, Jan. 22 at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street, in Danville from 2-4 p.m. Funeral services will be at Pape's on Monday, Jan. 23 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating. Burial will follow at Coal Creek Cemetery in Indiana.
