Fairmount, Illinois - Ruth Ann Young, 83, of Fairmount, Illinois passed from this life on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Danville, Illinois with complications from Parkinson's Disease.

Ruth was born in Danville, Illinois, on June 9, 1939, as an only child to John Eldon and Bernice Boose Hart. On October 18, 1958, at St. Patrick's Church in Danville, Illinois, she married William (Bill) Young of Perrysville, Indiana. He survives, as well as their children Sandra Young of La Porte, Indiana, and Gary (Connie) Young of rural Fairmount. Grandchildren are Stephanie (Jason) Cozzolino of Glendale, Arizona, Laura (TJ) Davis of Bismarck, Jennifer (Joey) Shields of Greencastle, Indiana and Robert Brinkman of Carmel, Indiana, plus eight great grandchildren and a new great-great-grandchild.

Ruth Ann was a homemaker, supporting the family farm operations for many years. She enjoyed sewing custom-made draperies in the 1980s for Liggett's Drapery in Catlin. She was very active in several volunteer efforts, including as Past President and a member for more than 50 years of the Fairmount Women's Club. She served as President of the Catlin Night Unit of Homemakers Extension, and as a 4-H leader. For multiple terms, she was an elected Trustee for Jamaica Township. She and her husband, Bill, were members of the Henning Haymakers Square Dance Club for more than a decade, and she sewed her dresses and his matching shirts. In addition to her talent for sewing, quilting, and crafts, Ruth Ann enjoyed growing both vegetables and flowers. She was an avid genealogist who spent many hours tracing back ancestry on all sides of the family tree.

Funeral service 12 noon on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Robison Chapel in Catlin, Illinois with her nephew, Chaplain Dennis Young, officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery west of Catlin. Visitation is from 10 am to noon on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Robison Chapel, Catlin, Illinois.
