Pinnie Lee (Newsome) Rowell, 78, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 24, 2017 at her residence. She was born on Jan. 17, 1939, in Jackson, Miss., to the late Joe and Maggie Newsome. She was the last survivor of seven siblings. Pinnie was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Eugene Rowell and to this union 15 children were born.

Pinnie was a member of New Life Church of Faith under the Pastorial leadership of Pastor Thomas Miller. She enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to Shirley Caesar and Mahalia Jackson. She enjoyed watching Church Ministry, Family Time and going to Bingo. Pinnie was very soft spoken, a loving mother and grandmother with open arms to all. A True Warrior.

Pinnie is survived by loving children: Doretha Forman (Mark), Darlene Gaston, Patricia Lillard (Sherman), Mary Ann Cox (Robert), Stephanie Buford (Bobby), Tina (Tanya) Jones (Alvin), Tasha Carter (Timothy), Joyce Finch (Keith), Angela Rowell, Courtland Rowell, Jerome Rowell, Tara Moreman; special daughter-in-law, Sonja Jackson; special brothers-in-law, Walter Howard and Jerome Gates; special sister-in-law, Lucille Johnson; 93 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons: Hollis, Benny, Eugene Jr.; siblings: AC Newsome, BJ Newsome, Beatrice Williams, Emma Davis, Lottie Stringer and Nina Forthenberry; and grandchildren: Michelle Buford, Kevin Jackson, and Anthony Carter.

A celebration of life will commence at 12 noon Tuesday, Aug. 29 at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 North Bowman Avenue. Officiating: Pastor Thomas W. Miller. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery. Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville is in charge of arrangements.
