Chrisman, Illinois - Phillip A. "Phil" Schmit, 73, of Chrisman, Illinois passed away at 3:02 pm on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at his home.

Phil was born December 1, 1950, in Danville, Illinois to Jacob Joseph and Mildred M. Scott Schmit. He married Sandra McNulty on January 3, 1984, in Winter Haven, Florida. She survives. Also surviving are: four sons: Phillip A. Schmit II of Alaska, Cory J. (Rhonda) Schmit of Ridge Farm, Illinois, Chris (Ashley Zarate) Schmit of Bismarck, Illinois, and Justin (Christina Rodriquez) Curry of Schaumburg, Illinois; one daughter: Faith A. (Dillon Gregory) Schmit of Springfield, Illinois; one brother: Ronald Schmit of Arizona; one sister: Patricia Schmit of Danville, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son: Nicholas "Nick" Schmit; four brothers; three sisters, and his nephew and best friend Harold "Butch" Drake.

Phil served in the US Marines. He was employed at the Danville Correctional Center from 1986 until 2000, retiring as a correctional lieutenant. He enjoyed playing pool, bowling, fishing, poker, and golfing.

Funeral services 10:30 am on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Robison Chapel, Catlin, Illinois. Burial in Hoult Cemetery, south of Chrisman, Illinois.
