Norma Jean (Campbell) Thompson, 84, of Oakwood, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Oct. 20, 2016, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville, with her family at her side.

She was born March 5, 1932, to James Clarence and Devora Bell (Jones) Campbell in Danville, and grew up in the Rabbittown area.

Norma married Raymond (Ray) G. Thompson on Jan. 17, 1953 in Danville. He survives.

She also is survived by their seven children, Debra Lenover, Randy Thompson, Jane (Derek) Weston, Jennifer Buckley, Julie (Dave) McClintock, John (Amie) Thompson and Teresa Thompson; 16 grandchildren, Brandi (Gary), LeAnn, Cory (Danielle), Jeff, Skylar, Taylor (Vicki), Trace, Austin, Cody, Lane, Hayden, Kaleb, Cierra, Nicole, Coltin and Kayla; 11 great-grandkids; and two great-great-grandkids. Also surviving are one brother, Robert (Winneford) Campbell; one sister, Ruth (Robert) Harrison; two sisters-in-laws, Betty (Thompson) Casey and Joan Thompson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and In-laws; four sisters, Harriette (Gorman) Givens, Leona (William) Givens, Juanita Campbell and Lois Campbell; two brothers Herbert (Mary Alice) Campbell, Walter Campbell; brother-in-law Donald Thompson; and sister-in-law Beverly (Jim) Claypool.

Norma graduated from Danville High School in 1949 and attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, graduating in 1952. Her life was centered around her husband, children, grandchildren and 36-year nursing career. During her 20 years as nursing supervisor at St. Elizabeth Hospital working in OB Labor and Delivery she was essential in advocating/instructing expectant parenting and Lamaze classes and setting up the area's first birthing room. She also was an avid Cubs and Illini fan.

A celebration of life funeral service for Norma will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at Sunset's Oakwood Chapel, 105 E. South Main St., Oakwood. Officiating the service will be Patti Wise and Dennis Divan. Visitation for family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the funeral home in Oakwood. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.
