Mary M. Wernigk Obituary

Mary Margaret (Parrish) Wernigk, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born on May 26, 1932 to Allie and Ermal Parrish. Mary had one brother Raymond (Marilyn) Parrish. She married Russ Wells and they had four children. Russ (Judy) Wells, Jackie (Mike) Cundiff, Bill (Kim) Wells, and Bob (Brenda) Wells. She was then married to Merle High before his passing. In April 2002, Mary married Ron Wernigk. They took care of each other until the end. She lives on through her eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, who will all miss her dearly.

Mary cooked in numerous kitchens over the years and retired from Lakeview Hospital in Danville.

Her joy of reading and knack for solving jigsaw puzzles kept her mind sharp. A die-hard Cubs fan, Mary loved watching them play, as well as watching many NCAA basketball games. She was a proud supporter of her children and many grandchildren through countless years of their sporting events.

Her favorite place, however, was her chair by the window, where she could take in the world. Known for her sharp wit and incredible sense of humor, Mary never hesitated to give you a hard time, all in good fun. She was known for being stubborn and definitely didn't enjoy being told what to do.

Mary was always sporting brightly painted nails and curled hair. Her laughter was infectious and her presence a source of joy for everyone lucky enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, but her love, laughter, and vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
