Danville, IL - Danville - Mary Ellen Griggs, 93, of Danville passed away at 5:42 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Hawthorne Inn of Danville. She was born November 19, 1931 in Karnak, IL, the daughter of James Orval and Ellen Caroline (Jones) Snyder. She married Robert Eugene Griggs on August 4, 1951, in Karnak. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1997.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Kim) Waggaman of Danville and Patricia (John) Darbishire of West Lafayette, IN; six grandchildren, Ashlee (Jon) Stonewall, Rhett (Natasha Paris) Cunningham, Chance (Kaitie Shaw) Waggaman, Lacey Waggaman, Thomas Darbishire, and Lily (Tanner) Dickerhoff; six great grandchildren, Addisyn, Anderson, and Annistyn Thomas, Arexson Stonewall, Vaughn Cunningham, and Zander Dickerhoff; and one brother, Stanley (Josie) Snyder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four siblings, and a grandson, Corey Waggaman.

Mary was employed as a Registrar's Assistant at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, for approximately ten years before moving to Danville. There she worked at Teepak for thirty years, retiring as Account Supervisor in Customer Service. She enjoyed attending college classes, helping her church, and spending time with her family.

Visitation will be at 10 AM followed by a service to celebrate Mary's life at 11 AM on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Burial will take place at a later time at Ebenezer Cemetery in Thompsonville, IL.
