Lorraine Dorothy (Pufunt) Martinek, 91, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at 7:55 a.m. at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born Jan. 27, 1925 in Chicago, the daughter of Bernard and Martha (Bober) Pufunt.
On June 15, 1946, she married Thomas William Martinek in Chicago. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2007.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Mary Christine (Mike) Hurley of Danville, Sandra Jean (Ken) Fruit of Ellsworth, Wis. (deceased), Thomas William (Shelley) Martinek, Jr. of Austin, Texas, Martin Gerald (Bonita) Martinek of Stone Bluff, Ind., Raymond Bernard of Fort Wayne, Ind., Judith Ann Proietti of Peoria, Dr. Edward Frances (Dr. Marie) Martinek of Bellbrook, Ohio, Lorie Ann Martinek-Prioietti of Southlake, Texas and John Patrick (Kay) Martinek of Arlington, Texas; 55 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Pufunt of Palos Heights, Ill. and Edward Pufunt of Mt. Prospect, Ill.; and sister, Patricia Lerner of El Cajon, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Ben Pufunt; sister-in-laws, Delores and Mary; special friends, Lorraine Carter, Emily Piergalski, Lorraine Szewczyk, Leona Pufunt, Marian Guida, and Irene Novak; as well as many other relatives and friends. Lorraine worked as a beautician in Chicago and had her own business as an accordion player, playing at weddings, parties, and many other events. Most proudly, she founded Country Store Health Foods, in Danville, on Nov. 1, 1977. Her husband and son built the building and she ran her store out of it happily helping thousands of people.
Lorraine was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Covington, The National Fraternity of the Secular 3rd Order Franciscans, National Nutritional Food Association, Mid-America Health Organization, and various other health food associations.
Lorraine was an animal lover. She also loved canning foods and reading. Lorraine will be missed by everyone who knew her and loved her wonderful personality.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 23, at 12:30 p.m. EST at ST. Joseph Catholic Church, 308 Pearl Street, Covington. Fr. Futral will officiate. She will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Covington. Visitation will be held Friday, April 22, from 7-9 p.m. EST at Sunset's Covington Chapel, Covington. A rosary will be held at 8:30 p.m. EST Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held prior to leaving for mass Saturday, April 23, from 10- noon EST at the funeral home.
