COVINGTON, IND. - Judith "Judy" Lee (Gayler) Spear, 72, formerly of Covington and recently of Markle, Ind., passed away in Bluffton Regional Continuing Care-Respite Care Center, Bluffton, Ind, on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at 8:04 a.m.

Judy was born in Hammond, Ind., on Sept. 6, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Hubert Lorraine and Anita Marie (Roe) Gayler. Judy was raised south of Attica and attended Attica High School. She has lived the past 46 years of her life in Covington and just recently moved to Markle, Ind.

While living in Covington, Judy worked for 15 years at Covington Manor Nursing Center. She worked in several capacities at the nursing center and at the time of her retirement in 1995 she was the Food Service Supervisor.

She was a member of Union Christian Church, south of Covington. She enjoyed mushrooming and cooking. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. She had recently taken up barn quilting.

On Aug. 2, 1960, Judy married James A. Spear in Attica.

She leaves behind her husband, James of 56 years; a son, David L. (Donna) Spear, Markle, Ind.; a sister, Beverly (Jay) Shade, Lafayette; her pet shih tzu, Winston; and three grandchildren, Katie, Emily and Sam Spear. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracey Miller.

Friends may call at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Monday, Aug. 8, from 5-8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington.
