Fairmount, Illinois - Johnson D. "J.D." Jones, 93, of Fairmount, Illinois passed away at 8:56 am on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois.

J.D. was born July 7, 1929, in Vance Township, Vermilion County, Illinois to Dan and Mabel Lopp Jones. He married Betty Truax on May 5, 1952, in Westville, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 3, 1993. Surviving are: two sons: William (Sharon) Jones of Oakwood, Illinois and Joe (Joy) Jones of Morris, Illinois; one brother: Oakie Jones of Fairmount, Illinois; three sisters: Dorothy (Don) Bolser of Fairmount, Illinois, Elizabeth Harold of Fairmount, Illinois, and Barb (Gary) Kneller of Morris, Illinois; five grandchildren: Heather (Jason) Ray, Matthew (Amy) Jones, Rob (Liz) Jones, Andrew (Angie) Jones, and Adam (Karissa) Jones; and twelve great-grandchildren: Kendall Jones, Parker Jones, Liam Jones, Charlie Ray, Kenzie Jones, Alexa Ray, Grayson Jones, Hensley Jones, Jocelyn Jones, Lainey Jones, Sydney Jones, and Lucas Jones. He was preceded in death by one brother: Harvey Jones; and two sisters: Mary Marlo and Sylvia Burris; three brothers-in-law: Chuck Harold, Richard Burris, and Bob Marlo.

J.D. served for two years in the US Army during the Korean War. He was an operating engineer for over 40 years. He was a member of the operating engineers local union #841 for 44 years (1977 to present), #150 for 21 ½ years, and the Fairmount Conservation Club for 60 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going driving, watching birds, and feeding local dogs.

Funeral services 12 noon on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Robison Chapel, Catlin, Illinois. Burial in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Catlin, Illinois with military honors.
