Austin, TX - John T. Douglas of Danville, Illinois passed away on the afternoon of Saturday, May 10th with his wife, Carol, and son Joel by his side. John is also survived by his son Jeff of Charlotte, NC; daughters-in law Cathy Martin Douglas of Austin, TX and Ann Douglas of Charlotte; four beloved grandchildren, June and Lincoln of Austin; River and Carson of Charlotte; and sisters Mary Cooney and Cathy Campbell of Denver, CO.

Born June 23, 1945, John grew up in Catlin, Illinois where he embraced small town life and majestic farmlands. He played high school football and enjoyed hunting with his father and friends. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1968 with a BS in Finance. He was in ROTC and became active Army. He married Carol Roberts in April 1969. After serving two years military commitment they returned to Champaign, IL where John joined the U of I Financial Aid Department leading into his banking career. He would go on to work at the community bank that was founded by his great grandfather in Catlin.

John's passions were his family, his faith, banking, playing golf, collecting toy trains, and pheasant hunting. John and Carol traveled together extensively around the world. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin. John served the Danville community on boards and did volunteer work including Vermilion Advantage, Rotary where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, the Illinois Banker Association, and the Danville Symphony Orchestra.

John was known for his kind and gentle soul and his classic smile. He carried a unique warmth and sweetness, which is a testament to the joy he found in life and positivity that he shared with others.

A Celebration of Life will be at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Austin TX on May 31, 2025 at 3 PM. Memorial gifts may be made to the Church.
