Danville, IL - Joan M Deering, 90, of Danville, IL passed away at 6:50 AM on July 28, 2025 at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman, IL.

Joan was born on April 27, 1935 the daughter of Emerson and Bernice (Jones) Martin in Kokomo, IN. She married William Deering on August 16, 1980 in Kokomo, IN and he preceded her in death on March 28, 1997.

Joan is survived by several special friends from the Catlin Church of Christ, Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL, friends and caregivers at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living as well as her Order of the Eastern Star sisters.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, William Deering and three siblings, Robert Martin, Richard Martin and Emerson Martin, Jr.

Joan was a member of the Catlin Church of Christ and taught elementary school for over 23 years at Bon Air School in Kokomo, IN. She was a 1953 graduate of Kokomo High School, Indiana University and Ball State University. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 72 years and was Past Honored Queen - Kokomo Bethel, #20, Past Worthy Matron - Kokomo Chapter #89 O.E.S., Past Grand Bethel Honored Queen of Indiana, Member of Fern Chapter #194 O.E.S., Past Matron Queen of Jobs and Daughters, member of the Athens Chapter #97 O.E.S in Crawfordsville, IN, and Catlin Church Joyful Joiners.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Pastor Carl Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 1-2:00 PM on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Joan's memory to the Order of the Eastern Star.
