James Smith
James A. Smith, 68, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, at Advent Health Deland. Jim was born on May 15, 1951, to James Albert and Thelma Maxine (Hays) Smith. He was raised in Sidell, and a member of Jamaica High School Class of 1969. He worked as a welder at Hyster in Danville, before relocating to the Davie, Florida area, where he continued his welding career at Luke's Heavy Truck and Equipment until his retirement.
Jim enjoyed life to the fullest, and always greeted his family and friends with a warm smile and big hug. He never met a stranger and was often the "life of the party." He enjoyed spending time at his rural home, outside Seville, Fla., tending to his animals and enjoyed building model railroads.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gary Smith; and sister, Nancy Smith Evans. He is survived by his brother, Gerald (Jo Anna) Smith of Georgetown; sister Diana (Robert) Frazier of Champaign; and sister, Kellie Howard of Danville; as well as several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are members of his Florida family, Sundown Lipscomb and her children, Randy Lipscomb, Candy Bailey, Nick Lipscomb, Andrew Lipscomb and Curt Morley.
A celebration of life will be held at his home in Seville, Fla., on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020.
His Illinois family and friends will hold a local celebration of life at a later date.

I’m sorry for your loss. My memory of Jim, is his purple Super Bee. My friend Donna and I rode in that Super Bee down to Hume, on the blacktop rode at least 120 miles an hour, and could of been more than that.
