Georgetown, Illinois - James "Whitey" Richards, age 77, of Georgetown, IL, passed away at his home on February 23, 2026.
He was born on September 23, 1948 in Danville, IL to James Richards and Katherine Lewis, and earned a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam. Whitey was a man of simple pleasures, happiest when he was searching the woods for mushrooms, tinkering on projects in his garage, or relaxing in front of the TV with his wife, Tama, and their dog, Pippi. He will be remembered for his humor, strength of character, and his dedication to his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tama; his children, Jimmy, Shane, Sharon (Artie), and Mark (Lori); his grandchildren, Ashley (Jess), Wesley, Caleb, and Amelia; his great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Elena; and his brother, Jeff.
A visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home in Georgetown, IL on February 27, 2026 from 12pm-2pm, with a funeral following directly.
