Potomac, IL - Helen Joyce Brutlag, 78, of Potomac, IL passed away at Carle Foundation Hospital on February 25, 2026 after a brief illness.

Joyce was born on October 25, 1947 the daughter of Kyle and Helen (Greene) Turner in Danville, IL. She married Vern Brutlag in 1987, and he preceded her in death in 2008. She later married John Wright in 2020, and he preceded her in death in 2024.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Amy (Cliff) Hegg of Danville, IL, stepchildren, Brenda (Mark) Thomas of Rossville, IL, Cheryl Davis of Indiana, Greg (Nancy) Wright of Veedersburg, IN, Brad (Amy) Wright of Champaign, IL and Jeff (Bonny) Wright of Covington, IN; grandchildren, Torrie Hegg of Armstrong, IL and Dalton Hegg of Danville, IL; siblings, Bob (Debbie) Turner of Danville, IL, Jackie (Diane Catomer) Reitsma of Elizabethtown, IL, bonus sister and brother in law Mindy and Darrel Frichtl of Tuscola, IL, and a special nephew Nate (Liz) Reitsma of Westville, IL.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Vern Brutlag and John Wright as well as two siblings, Karen Frichtl and Rick Turner and one stepdaughter, Diane Bailey.

Joyce is a longtime member of the Rossville Church of Christ in Rossville, IL. She retired from TeePak and later retired from Walmart in 2019. Joyce loved her job at Walmart and made many lifelong friends there. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family, spa time with Amy, and reading and studying the Bible. She felt caregiving was her calling, and for many years she cared for her elderly mother and uncle. Joyce would go above and beyond to help anyone in need.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Pastor Kevin Purdy will officiate. Entombment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, March 2, 2026 at the funeral home in Danville, IL.
