George Alden "Al" Obituary

George Alden "Al" May, 93, of Potomac died at 7:45 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.


Al was born July 27, 1916, in Potomac, the son to John and Ida Mae May. He married Alice J. Rouse of Oakwood on Feb. 28, 1935, in Minister C.L. Finley's home.


Survivors include his wife, Alice; two sons, Daryl (Brenda) May of Belleair, Fla., and Gary May of Potomac; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also is survived by a special nephew and his wife, Richard and Phyllis Hoskins, and friends Martin and Helen Whited. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eva May Hoskins; and an infant brother.


Al attended Potomac schools and was a life-long member of the Illinois Carpenters Union, retiring in 1962. He also was a life-long member of the Potomac First Church of Christ.


He was an avid musician, artist, woodworker, hunter and fisherman.


Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at First Church of Christ, Potomac. Pastor Randy Walters to officiate. Burial: Potomac Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Potomac.
