Fred Thornsbrough Obituary

Fred L. Thornsbrough, 72, of Danville, Illinois passed away at his sister's home at 12:54 a.m. on February 2, 2022.

He was the son of Erville and Helen (Songer) Thornsbrough. He is survived by daughter, Amy Farrow of Danville, sister Jeannie Westfahl of Danville, nephews: Kent (Debbie) Westfahl of Bismarck, Michael (Deana) Westfahl of Danville, Brad (Dena) Thornsbrough of Florida, nieces: Lisa (Paul) Taylor, Jill (Russell) Davis of Oakwood as well as several great nieces and great nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, brother Orville "Tom", brother-in-law, Kenneth Westfahl.

Fred graduated from Danville High School in 1967, shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he honorably served his country from 1968 to 1972.

Throughout his lifetime he worked at several different jobs, but his career job was in the HVAC maintenance department at the VA Medical Center in Danville, where he worked for 32 years before retiring in 2017.

Fred loved to fish but his real love and passion was classic cars and going to car shows. He was the proud owner of multiple classic cars and hot rods, most of which he built himself. Attending a car show almost every weekend during the summer months for most of his adult life allowed him to meet many fellow "hot rodders" making lifelong friendships with too many to mention.

Fred was a member of the Life Church in Danville. He was a very devoted Christian with a strong faith and love for the Lord that was an inspiration and blessing to all those who knew him. His fervent prayers and compassion touched many lives as well as his very generous gifts to those in need.

Fred was a special blessing to his friends, and brothers and sisters in the Lord. He loved and appreciated Dennis and Dianne Gray, and they were honored to minister to him as caregivers. Fred was able to spend his final days in his childhood home being lovingly cared for by his sister, Jeannie, as well as family and friends. A special thanks to our Carle Hospice nurses.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, February 7, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., services 3:00 p.m. at Life Church 2105 N. Bowman Avenue, Danville, Illinois. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
