NEWPORT, Ind. - Emily Kristen Fortner, 39, of Newport and formerly of Los Angeles, California, passed away at 9:08 p.m. EDT Sunday, June 14, 2021.

She was born May 1, 1982 in Clinton, Indiana the daughter of Tami M. (Shipman) Fortner of Newport, Indiana and Jim (Jane) Fortner of Madison, Wisconsin.

Other survivors include her two brothers: Jeremy (Amanda) Fortner and Jaimal Fortner both of Newport, Indiana; maternal grandmother: Carole Shipman of Danville, Illinois; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and her best friends: Shannon, Jennie, Jamie, Myra, Kim and Drew just to name a few of the many she had.

Emily was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother: Annabelle Robertson; paternal step grandfather: Bill Robertson, and maternal grandfather: Harry G. Shipman.

Emily was a project coordinator in the field of Interior/Architect Design having formerly worked at Water Works in Los Angeles. She was a graduate of North Vermillion High School, Ivy Tech Community College of Terre Haute and the Art Institute of Indianapolis. Emily enjoyed hiking, painting and collecting art, reading, spending time with her many friends and beloved dog, Addie.

Inurnment of cremains will be held at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana. A Celebration of Life gathering will be announced at a later date. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences: www.deverterfuneralhome.com.
