Dale Fry Obituary

Dale Fry, 79, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 12:07 A.M. Tuesday February 22, 2022, at his home. He was born August 22, 1942, in Oskaloosa, IA, a son of Frank and Mabel (Seaton) Fry. He married Martha Hedrick on December 22, 1971, in Danville, IL.

Dale is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha; his daughter, Stephanie (David) Johnson; beloved grandsons, Davis, Meade, and Madden; sisters-in-law, Lois Fry and Mary Chambers; one nephew, Jerry (Zelma) Fry; two nieces, Betty Jo Thornton and Lydia (Chris) Voorhees; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dean Fry; and one brother-in-law, Craig Chambers.

After graduating in 1964 from William Penn University, Dale moved to Hoopeston to teach Social Studies at Hoopeston Jr. High. In 1972, he left the classroom and became Director of Grounds, Maintenance, and Transportation for the Hoopeston school district. After many years of dedication and service, he retired in 1992.

Dale was the President of the Hoopeston Public Library Board for thirty years and was a prolific reader. He was a man of few words but when he spoke you better be listening. He was a social member of the Hoopeston American Legion and enjoyed hunting and shooting with his friends. Dale's greatest joy was his family and grandsons.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and a private family burial will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hoopeston Public Library, 110 N. 4th St. Hoopeston, IL 60942.
