Danville, IL - Charles Roy Gates 93, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, July 12, 2025 at in Danville, IL.

He was born on February 16, 1932, in Decatur, IL., the son of Roy and Charlotte (Bennier) Gates and married Rose (Myszkowski) on November 30, 1956.

Charles was preceded in death by his son Charles Douglas Gates and his sister Nancy Kay Weiser and is survived by his loving wife, Rose Gates of Danville, IL and his son Jon Gates of Kokomo, IN and his granddaughter Cassidy Mulberg of Sultan, WA.

Charles graduated from Danville High School before attending the Army Signal Corps Training School at Fort Monmouth NJ. He was deployed to Korea during the Korean War and achieved the rank of Corporal. Upon returning, he was employed by the Recording and Statistical Division of the Sperry Corporation which later became Unisys.

Charles oversaw his farm operations in Momence, IL and took a keen interest in vegetable and fruit production and beekeeping at his home in Danville.

He was an avid bird watcher with his wife Rose and enjoyed vacationing with her in Naples, FL during the winter months.

Charles supported many community causes with his wife and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

A chapel mausoleum committal service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 18, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum in Danville, Illinois, 3901 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61832. Robbie Ketcherside will officiate.

Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials can be made in memory of Charles Gates to a charity of the donor's choice.
