Veedersburg, Indiana - Veedersburg - Charles "Chuck" Lee & Deloris "Susie" Irene (Hartle) Lefton, Veedersburg, both passed away 13 hours apart at their home on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 following their failing health.

Charles or "Chuck" as he was known to family and friends, was born at home in Attica, Indiana on October 28, 1941. He was the son of the late Sherman L. and Carmen Gertrude (Pattengale) Lefton. Chuck was raised in Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1958. He moved to Veedersburg in 1963. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and was stationed in Alaska during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1968. After the war he began a career with TeePak in Danville for 40 years, retiring in 2013. Following his retirement from TeePak in Danville, he began a second career with Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg as a funeral assistant until his failing health. He was an active member of the Sterling Christian Church in Veedersburg. He enjoyed woodworking and working outside in the yard. He was an avid I.U. sports fan.

Deloris or "Susie", as she was known to family and friends, was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on June 17, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Roy E. and Mary Anna (Weaver) Hartle. She was a life resident of Veedersburg, graduating from Veedersburg High School in 1958. She later graduated from Lake View School of Nursing with a degree as a Registered Nurse. She worked in nursing at Lake View Hospital, Danville, IL. While her husband was serving in the U.S. Army and stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, Susie worked in a hospital in Fairbanks. Upon returning from Alaska she began working for United Samaritan, Provena and Presence Hospitals in Danville until her retirement in 2013 after 40 years of service as a post operative nurse.

She was an active member of the Sterling Christian Church in Veedersburg. She enjoyed riding her horses and was an avid gardener. She would make cookies for the nursing home once a month. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery work and making greeting cards. She was an avid fan of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, receiving their autographs. She and Chuck loved the time spending with family, especially the grandchildren, Parker and Ana.

Chuck and Susie met during high school in the United Brethren Church. She went to church in Stone Bluff and he went to church in Attica. During youth meetings they were introduced and later married on June 30, 1963 in the Stone Bluff United Methodist Church. Together they have been married soon to be 63 years.

They leave behind a daughter, Kimberly (Dane) Maltsberger, Veedersburg; two grandchildren, Parker and Ana Maltsberger, Veedersburg; Chuck leaves behind a sister, Linda (Charles) Borgel, Louisville, KY and a sister-in-law, Twila of San Diego, CA and was preceded in death by a brother Tom Lefton. He was preceded in death by two other brothers, Sherman "Bud" Lefton, Paul "Pat" Lefton; four sisters, Violet Simmons, Lenora "Flea" Walker, Betty Brenner and Martha Foster. Susie, leaves behind a sister-in-law, Martha Hartle, Veedersburg and was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd L. Hartle.

Friends may call at the Sterling Christian Church, 701 S. Sterling Ave., Veedersburg on Wednesday, May 13th, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Nursing Honor Guard Tribute will be held at 7:30 p.m. A joint celebration of their lives will be held in the church on Thursday, May 14th at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Jason Davis officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sterling Christian Church.
