Betty Jean (McCubbin) Burmeister Obituary
Betty Jean (McCubbin) Burmeister, 95, of Danville, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 26, 2016.
She was born in Covington, Ind. Nov. 22, 1920 the daughter of Fred and Bessie J. McCubbin and moved to Danville as an infant.
On July 5, 1941, she married Robert John Burmeister, who preceded her in death Oct. 20, 2000. Also preceding her in death are her parents, five sisters, two brothers and a great-granddaughter.
Betty is survived by two sons: Robert A. (Karen) Burmeister of El Paso, Texas, David L. (Mary) Burmeister of Danville; grandsons, Brian (Sarah) Burmeister of North Carolina, Shane Burmeister of Danville, Matthew (Ashly) Burmeister of Franklin, Ind., Robert J. Burmeister of Texas, Daniel (Lorriane) of Texas; granddaughters, Beth (Casey) Smothers of Danville and Cynthia (Donnie) Dazey of Danville; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Dakota, Braylen, James, Jane, Daniel Jr., Giovanni, Noelani and Brandee Burmeister, Aaron Smothers, Jakob and Jared Dazey; nieces, Donna Blue of Tilton, Marjorie Marx of Danville, Marilyn McCubbin of Danville; nephews, Bill (Miriam) McCubbin of Danville, Ind., Don (Kathy) Burmeister of Holland, Mich. and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
During WWII, she was active with Red Cross and U.S.O. She was employed by S.S. Kresge from 1934 to 1936, also Walgreen Drug Store from 1933 to 1941, then retired from K-Mart where she worked from 1965 to 1975.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in PTA, Alter Guild, Women's Guild, craft classes and Bible Study groups. She enjoyed working within the church and Lutheran School, sewing and gardening. She especially loved and enjoyed her family.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the nursing staff at Presence USMC and Iroquois Memorial Hospice.
A Celebration of Life for Betty will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center with visitation prior from 9- 11 a.m., Pastor Michael Heidle will officiate. Burial will take place at the Lutheran Cemetery.
