Albert Riggle Obituary
Albert L. Riggle, 87, of Sidell, died at 3:34 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018, at his home after battling lung and stomach cancer the past two years.
He retired from the VA medical center in Danville after 35 years of employment as supervisor of ambulatory care. The past 20 years, he was the Sidell Township supervisor. He attended First Baptist Church in Sidell, where he received the Lord as his personal savior.
He was born May 25, 1931, in Chrisman, Ill., a son of Lingle and Iva Tolbert Riggle.
He married Sharon Hillary on September 26, 1969. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Laura (Jeff) Edwards, Tilton, Kerri (Chris) Morgan, Mooresville, Ind.; one son, Jeffrey (Sheila) Riggle, Louisville, Ky.; four granddaughters, Melanie Davenport, Westville, Jillian Jones, Mooresville, Ind., Gabrielle Aders, Nineveh, Ind., and Hillary Morgan, Mooresville, Ind.; one great-granddaughter, Annjelus Johnson, Westville; one sister, Donna (Jack) Deck, Crawfordsville, Ind.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Ruby Marriage, formerly of Georgetown, and Susan Gillespie, formerly of Westville; five brothers, Lingle Jr. formerly of Georgetown, Arthur and Warren, both formerly of Westville, Charles, formerly of Georgetown, and Frank, formerly of Gainesville, Fla.
Albert enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1950-1954. He enjoyed sharing stories with family and friends about his service to his country. He was presently serving as commander for Sidell American Legion Post 530.
Albert will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He enjoyed storytelling and each Christmas blessed his family with a heartwarming story with a moral to live by.
He loved boating at Table Rock Lake in Missouri. He was an avid Cubs and Chicago Bear fan. He also enjoyed collecting Pepsi memorabilia and was very adamant about Pepsi being his favorite cola.
Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, September 20, at Sidell First Baptist Church with Pastor Craig Roller and Pastor Chuck Powell officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Sidell. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon preceding the service.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Sidell or to a charity of the donor's choice. Joines Funeral Home, Newman, is handling arrangements.
