NEWTOWN, IND. - Zana Eleanor (Pogue) Hinton Alward, 96, formerly of Newtown and Attica, passed away in Parkview Healthcare Center, Attica, on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017 at 4:15 p.m.
Zana was born in Richland Township of Fountain County, Ind. on Oct. 14, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Earl and Leota (Clawson) Pogue. Zana was raised in Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1938. She later moved to Newtown, residing there for several years before moving back to Attica.
Zana worked as a bookkeeper for the Helgers CalGas Company in Mellott from 1965 - 1982.
In her early years, Zana attended Attica-Williamsport Presbyterian Church and later became a member of Newtown Community Church. She was a former member of Newtown Eastern Star and had served as Worthy Matron. She was a member of Newtown Sewing Club and had served as Vice-Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Fountain County.
Zana first married Albert A. Hinton on June 25, 1938 in Waveland, Ind. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1987. She later married Leston Bus L. Alward on June 6, 1998 in Attica. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2005.
Zana leaves behind a son, David Marcus Marc (Dinah) Hinton, Vero Beach, Fla.; a son-in-law, Michael Mains, Danville; a step-daughter, Linda Brown, Attica; two grandsons, Ryan (Rebecca) Hinton, Nashville, Tenn. and Travis (Debbie) Mains, Danville; two granddaughters, Tina (David) Ammermann, Danville, and Tonya Mains, Plainfield, Ind.; a step-granddaughter, Lori (Brent) Miller, Bloomington, Ind.; two great-grandsons, Brandon Hinton and Tyler Ammermann; two great-granddaughters, Morgan and MacKenzie Mains; two step-great-grandchildren, Kylie and Hayden Miller; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Hinton Herrick, Lafayette and Ruth Alice Pogue, Oxford, Miss. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Mains (Oct. 26, 2004); two brothers, Floyd and Wilbur Pogue; along with a sister, Juanita Dotson.
Friends may gather at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Saturday, March 25, from 11 a.m. until the memorial service time at 12 p.m. with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. Private family inurnment will follow in Old Baptist Cemetery, west of Newtown.
