WESTVILLE - William "Bill" Dean Russell, 76, of Westville, passed away at 4:40 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, in Pensacola, Fla., after a long illness.
Bill was born March 23, 1940, in Danville, to William Ernest and Lillie June Harrier Russell.
He married Bettie Fuller in Danville, in 1957. Bettie Hicks survives of Navarre, Fla. He later married Shirley Ann Richards in Daytona Beach, Fla. in 1974. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2016 after 42 years of marriage.
Surviving are one son: Scott (Bonnie) Russell of Nevada, Iowa; one daughter: Joni R. (Matt) Wells of Ocean Springs, Miss.; two step-sons: Craig Carwile of Westville and Brian Carwile of Westville; one step-daughter: Tamie (Tim) Carwile Hovden of Rifle, Colo.; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother: John Dale Russell; and two children: William Carl Russell and Rona Renee Russell.
Bill grew up in Catlin and attended Catlin Schools. He served in the U.S. Army for six years. He retired from operating engineers and was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local #841. He loved animals, motorcycles, the outdoors, and was a NASCAR fan. He enjoyed attending local football games and going to his grandchildren's games.
Graveside services: 12 noon on Saturday, March 4, at Greenwood Cemetery, Danville, with Chris Lawler officiating. Military rites accorded by American Legion Post #210. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. on Friday, March 4, at Robison Chapel, Catlin.
