Walter Lister, 84, of Attica (Portland Arch), passed away Thursday evening April 20, 2017 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1932, in Danville, to Harvey E. and Viola M. (Cook) Lister. Walter had attended Danville schools and he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Walter married Iona J. Swim on July 15, 1961 in Danville. She survives along with two daughters, Cheryl (Larry) Lyon of Scottsburg, Ind. and Karen Ann (James) Chapman of Attica, Ind.; also, a brother-in-law, Richard Nicoson of Danville and a sister-in-law, Jean Lister of Danville; two grandsons, Brent Durnil and Mark Lyon; and a great-grandson, Carter Wesley Lyon. Along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and two brothers. Walter had been employed as a machinist for many years at the C&EI, Traveler Boats, Esco and Quaker, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed all sports, bowling, tennis, fast pitch softball, hunting and fishing. Walter cherished living in the Covington area and his church friends.
Funeral Service will be Sunday April 23, at 3 p.m. EDT in Shelby Funeral Home, of Covington, Ind., with James Russell officiating. Burial to follow in Lower Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Shelby Funeral Home.
