Verna Mae Hines, 74, formerly of Rantoul and Danville, passed away Nov. 18, 2016, at Danville Care Center.
Per her wishes, Verna was cremated and a memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Faith Church of Urbana, 2111 N. Willow Road, Urbana.
Verna was born June 21, 1942, in Ashkum, Ill., to Alvin and Cornelia (Saxma) Cotter.
She attended Illinois schools, and later moved to Georgia where she earned her CNA. Verna was a nurse for over 30 years and enjoyed working with her patients.
She was incredibly close to her sister Harriett, and enjoyed using her hands to needlepoint, do crosswords and write pen-pal letters. She also had a weakness for the tabloids.
Verna lost her husband, Orbin, a few years ago. She leaves behind her two sisters, Harriett Cotter and Geraldine Sanchez; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Kenny Cotter; and two children, Terry Ahrens and Sheila Redman.
