Thomas Edward Burch, age 82, of Tangier, passed away on June 18, 2017 on the farm surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Danville, on Jan. 20, 1935, to the late Frank and Hattie (Laws) Burch.
Tom graduated from Tangier High School in 1953 and married the love of his life, Jan (Foster) Burch, on March 22, 1957. Throughout the years, Tom worked at TeePak, Olin, Newport Army Ammunition Plant, was a hog farmer, construction worker, and substitute teacher while living in Florida, and retired from US Can after 27 years. Tom loved the outdoors and enjoyed farming, forestry, graphing trees, hunting, fishing, gardening, singing, chasing cows around the farm, telling stories, and spending time with his family on the farm. Tom loved to sit and visit and didn't know a stranger. He was a member and President of the Tangier Fish & Game Club.
Tom is survived by his wife, Jan; five sons, David (Lori) Burch, Tony Burch, Bryan (Peggy) Burch, Bill (Kelly) Burch, Matthew (Tami) Burch; four daughters, Jean (Craig) Spriestersbach, Lee Anne (Ted) Cummings, Lori Jane (Steve) Malone, Debbie (Paul) Green; two sisters, Frances Millikan and Pat Parker; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and hundreds of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Patty Burch; two brothers-in-law, Gene Millikan and Con Parker; and two children.
There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering on Saturday, July 8, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Tangier Community Center where everyone is welcome to honor, remember, and celebrate Tom's Life.
