Sheriff Mohammed, 73, of Rossville, Ill., passed away at 1:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at the Hawthorne Inn in Danville.
He was born Jan. 28, 1943, in Gasperillo, Trinidad, the son of Faizool and Aminah (Ramjohn) Mohammed.
He married Loyce A. Richardson in Chicago. She survives in Rossville.
He is survived by two daughters, Tina (Mike) Bakr of Tinley Park, Ill., and Tara (Christopher) Heatherly of Bourbonnais, Ill., one son, David Richardson of Rossville; one brother, Shareek "Kismet" Mohammed of Elmont, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Shaffic "Derrick" Mohammed.
Sheriff was a mechanical design engineer at Automation International Inc. in Danville, until his retirement. He served in the United States Army and attended Hoopeston Community Church of the Nazarene.
He loved sports, watching boxing, was an avid card player and had a special love for music and singing. Sheriff also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and working on anything mechanical.
A visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Mann's Chapel Cemetery in rural Rossville, with military rites being accorded by Hoopeston American Legion Post 384 and VFW Buddy Egnew Post 4826.
