Shaunta Cortez Gooden was born in Chicago, on August 7, 1974, to Anthony Gooden Sr. and Rita Faye Buckley. Affectionately known as "Big Shaun", he attended Chicago area schools and was employed at various companies. Big Shaun met Nicole Grace and through this union, a son, Shawn Cortez Gooden was born in 1995. Subsequently, Big Shaun and Nicole married in 2002.
In 2005, the Gooden family relocated to Danville and Big Shaun accepted employment with McLane Midwest, where he remained for 11 years. On Feb. 25, 2017, Big Shaun was suddenly called home for eternal rest. Big Shaun was a quiet and lovable man who enjoyed movies, fast cars and his animals; he will be forever missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, son and parents, Big Shaun leaves to cherish his memory his siblings, Anthony Jones, Keira Buckley, Kyle Buckley, Semaj Buckley, Kendrick Buckley and Devon Buckley; stepdaughters, Ashley Grace and Natavia (Emmanuel) Morales; grandchildren, Cameron Grace, Demarion Grace and Itzayana Morales; foster daughters, Jasmine and Dewanda Collins; aunts, Norma Jean (Willie) Boston, Verlinda Jones and Sheila Gooden; uncles, McWestley (Shirley) Jones and Alton (Andrea) Jones; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will commence at 12 noon Friday, March 3, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 North Bowman Ave., Danville. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the start of the service. Officiating Min. David Moore. Interment Spring Hill Cemetery. Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 East Williams Street, Danville, in charge of arrangements.
