Ruth I. Clodfelter, 94, passed away at home on Dec. 15, 2016, following an extended illness. Ruth was born in Danville on Dec. 22, 1921, the daughter of Cyrus Dillon Bailey and Geneva nee: Coonrod Bailey and graduated from Danville High School. She married Guy Clodfelter on Oct. 5, 1938, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1978. Ruth was a very active member of the Wallace Phanuel Lutheran Church holding many offices within the church and serving on the Lutheran Church LCA Lafayette Conference Council. She was a 20-year volunteer at the Danville Correctional Facility through D.A.C. and a Doucet with the Vermilion County War Museum. She served as the Jackson Township trustee in Fountian County, Indiana.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Sharon C. Pederson of Hillsboro, Ind., and Sandra (husband James) Tarrant of Hillsboro, Ind. She also will be missed by her four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents; husband; daughter, Sally in 1944; and grandchildren Michael and Megan Tarrant. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Brigadier General Wayne Bailey, Lt. Col. Gordon Bailey and Major Kenneth D. Bailey and her sister Edith Harder. Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18 at Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Rd., Waynetown, Ind., with Lowell Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 11 a.m. Sunday until the services at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Jackson Township Fountain County Scholarship fund or to the Vermilion County War Museum.
