Ronald Gene Rigoni, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, in Sarasota Fla.
Ron was born July 23, 1934, in Danville, Ill. Predeceased by his loving parents Matt and Ermida Rigoni.
Sadly, missed by his longtime partner Thelma Brown, and Thelma's daughters Susan (Denis Charbonneau) and Kathleen (Michel Bouchard).
Ron was an honor graduate in the DHS class of 1952, and an accomplished DHS basketball player, holding DHS basketball scoring records at the time of his graduation. He was named to two All-state Basketball teams. In 2013, he was inducted in to the IBCA Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame.
A multi-sport athlete, Ron was also a high school football letter-winner, a member of the 1952 track team and shotput record-holder. He was an accomplished athlete, but it was his academic achievement that earned him an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
At West Point, he continued his football career until receiving a career-ending shoulder injury his freshman year. Ron left the academy in 1953, and enrolled at the U of Illinois, earning his Bachelor of Science in Management, class of 1956. In 1961, Ron completed a Bachelor of Foreign Trade degree from the American Institute for Foreign Trade, Arizona.
Ron worked for Dow Corning, Sunbeam and Alcan Aluminum in his career in consumer product sales and marketing. Furthermore, Ron highly valued education, and kindly shared his financial success with his high school and university alma mater.
Interment in Danville, Ill., and a private service will be held. A donation in Ron's honor may be made to any charity of your choice.
