Rodney Dewayne Crosby, 22, of Danville, transitioned from this life at 10:01 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017 surrounded by his family. Rodney was born Dec. 18, 1994, the son of Shayla D. Jones and Rodney Crosby Sr.
He attended the Danville Schools. He was planning to continue his education in welding. Rodney was a former member of Greater Shiloh Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing video games and spending time with his family and friends. He loved his mother dearly, their bond was inseparable. He was never a problem child. Rodney and Joshua was 20 years apart but the bond between him and his "Bro Bro" was so strong and will be forever lasting. His sister, Rodnesha, looked up and consoled in him for advice. He loved his sisters the same and played a major role in their lives. Rodney stepped up and was a father figure after the loss of his father.
Rodney leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Shayla D. Jones; his siblings, Rodnesha Crosby, Jay'Ana Robinson, Tamera Austin, Joshua Robinson and Jae Shawn Robinson; maternal grandfather, Kenneth (Jacquline) Jones of Champaign; special cousin that was like a brother, Kenneth Jones; and a host of aunts, uncles and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded by his father Rodney Crosby Sr.; maternal grandmother, Cassandra Jones; and paternal grandfather, Walter Crosby.
A Celebration of Life will commence at 12 noon Tuesday, May 23, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Pastor David Moore. Viewing will be from 1-5 p.m. Monday, May 22, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams. Cremation will follow.
