Rev. Mack's Story
The Rev. Mack J. Butterfield, 83, of Hoopeston, formerly of Chicago, passed away at 1:12 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Mr. Butterfield was born Feb. 23, 1933, in Mounds, Ill., the son of William and Cynthia (Leek) Butterfield.
He married Dorothy (Owens) Green on Feb. 22, 2000, in Danville. She survives.
He is survived by one daughter, Shirley Spradling of Chicago; five sons, Mack Butterfield Jr., David Butterfield, Robert Butterfield, William Butterfield all of Mountain Home, Ark., and Kevin Wishecoby of Chicago; two stepsons, Roger Green of Williamsport, Ind., and Gary Green of Danville; one sister, Betty Grace of Paducah, Ky.; 27 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carolyn Thomas; two infant sons; two brothers; and eight sisters.
Mack attended school in Metropolis, Ill., and later attended Bible College. He worked as a minister in the Chicago area for several years and also at several body shops. Mack loved to preach God's word and win souls for the Lord.
He was a devoted husband and father. He loved people so much and tried to be a helper to people in need. He loved his little doggies and they loved him so much. He also enjoyed singing and making things pretty. Mack will be very much missed.
A Celebration of Rev. Mack J. Butterfield's Life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Blurton Funeral Home in Hoopeston with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating. Burial will follow the service in Floral Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
