Randy Earl Carter, 67, of Hoopeston, passed away at 5:31 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at his home.
Randy was born on Jan. 4, 1949, in Danville, the son of Earl Oscar and Dorothy (Egnew) Carter. He married Rita Scott on Dec. 22, 1968, in Benton Harbor, Mich. She survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Tanya (Rob) Obenland of Milford; one son, Seth (Megan) Carter of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Zane Obenland, Marissa Obenland, Laura Obenland, Mazie Bea Carter and Huckleberry Cooper Carter; one great-granddaughter, Maci King; two brothers, Dennis (Renne) Carter of Vancouver, Wash. and Ron (Jennifer) Carter of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one step-brother, Ernie (Laurie) Trent of Champaign; one half-sister, Mary Ann (Greg) Hilleary of Danville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ernest L. Trent; and sister, Becky Waters.
Randy graduated from Hoopeston High School in 1967 and attended Northern Illinois University. In 1968, he joined the United States Air Force and served until 1972. Randy later worked as a banker at City National Bank for 25 years and was the previous owner of Star Chrysler in Hoopeston. He most recently worked for Iroquois Paving in Watseka and was serving as Ward 2 Alderman for City of Hoopeston. Randy was a member of Star Lodge, Gao Grotto and past member of Hoopeston Jaycees, where he served as a JCI Senator. He was also a member of Hoopeston American Legion Post 384, where he served as adjutant and was very active in helping with bingo and other events. Randy enjoyed fishing, working, volunteering and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
A Celebration of Randy's Life will be held at Hoopeston American Legion from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Wade Meranda officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will follow the service at Floral Hill Cemetery.
