Rachel Sue Shannon, 71, of Westville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 14, 2017, at 1 p.m. at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Rachel was born Dec. 21, 1945, the daughter of Carroll and Mary Wegar Lawson, in Akron, Ohio. She married Dale Shannon on Oct. 14, 2000, at Christian Union Church in Covington, Ind. He survives.
Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie (Brett) Bean and their two sons, Alec and Andrew Bean, all of Mahomet; step-son, Danny (Denise) Shannon and sons, Kyle and Travis Shannon, of Catlin; step-son, Dennis (Sheri) Shannon of Westville and their son, DJ (Kate) and their children, Brayden, Addison and William Shannon of New Jersey; step-daughter, Erin (Todd) Gross and son, Parker, of Westville; brother, Andy Lawson of Collison; three sisters, Fran Lawson of W.V., Nancy Dean of Danville and Jane Summers of Covington; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William "Bill" Lawson.
Rachel graduated from Perrysville High School in 1963 and Lakeview Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1966, working 41 years as a registered nurse. She was involved in PHS Alumni association.
Rachel was a member of Christian Union Church where she was a very active member. She enjoyed playing the organ for church services. She also enjoyed making wreaths and button bracelets. Most of all she enjoyed doing things with her grandchildren.

A celebration of Rachel's life will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S. State Street, Westville. Pastor Tony DeMoss will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery, Danville. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
