ATTICA, IND. - Patricia Louise (Swift) Spears, 85, formerly of Danville, Ill. and Covington, Ind., passed away in Parkview Healthcare Center, Attica, on Monday, Aug. 1, 2016 at 10:22 p.m. Patricia was born in Danville on Feb. 21, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Harry Samuel and Eula Mae (Teel) Swift. Patricia was raised in Danville; she attended Danville High School, and later received her degree from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Danville.
Patricia devoted her life to raising her children while expressing her creativity through music, artwork and writing. She worked tirelessly caring for the needs of others throughout her life; first she worked as a nurse both at St. Elizabeth Hospital and assisting Dr. Robert Talbert. She also worked for Danville's Crosspoint Human Services, serving four counties in Illinois. She was very proud of serving Christ through missionary work locally, as well as in the following places: Seattle, Wash.; Sitka, Alaska; Appalachia, N.C., and overseas in the Ukraine.
Patricia was an Associate Member of Benedictine Sisters of the Holy Cross. She enjoyed serving on the board as well as being a Lifetime Learning Student and Presenter of the WALLA group (Wabash Area Lifetime Learning Association) in West Lafayette, Ind. One of the things Patricia enjoyed doing through the WALLA group was teaching pastel painting and the history of art. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Lafayette.
On Oct. 9, 1948, Patricia married Francis Douglas Spears in Henderson, Ky. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Patricia leaves behind seven children: Kathleen (Gene) Castellari, Coletta (John) Lupinski, Teresa (Ira) Cohen, Mary (Jerry) Watson, F. Joseph (Roanna Sanches) Spears, Matthew (Joan) Spears, and M. Elaina (Scott) Fletcher; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three newborn sons, as well as her adult son, Lewis William Bill Spears, and daughter, M. Maristella Stella Spears.
Friends may gather at Attica-Williamsport Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Friday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. (EDT) to the service time at 11 a.m. (EDT). Inurnment will follow at 2 p.m. (Illinois time) 3 p.m. (Indiana) time in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
