DANVILLE - Myra Jean Flick, 87, of Danville, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at her home in Danville.
Myra was born July 24, 1929, the daughter of Omar L. and Hazel A. (Boone) Sims in Lawndale, Ill.
She married Virgil D. Flick on Sept. 27, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 31, 2012.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Dungan and Tammie Lawson both of Danville, Ill.; four grandchildren, Brent Dungan of Indianapolis, Tommy (Christy) Lockhart of Danville, Chad Lockhart of Indianapolis, and Malea (Ricky) Crosby of Terre Haute, Ind.; as well as 11 great grandchildren.
Myra is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil; one daughter, Cozette King; and a brother, Jack Sims.
Myra was a member of Second Church of Christ in Danville. She had a strong belief in her faith and in the Lord. Family was very important to Myra. She was a devoted wife and mother to her husband and family.
She loved to "play in the dirt" with her flowers, watch the birds in her backyard, take her daily walks or could be found in her kitchen cooking up some of her famous fried chicken, mac and cheese, dumplings, baking one of her wonderful pies or mixing up a batch of her "special" popcorn.
Myra always had a bright smile and sweet personality. She was known by many for her eloquent letters that were written in a prose that sounded as though she were speaking directly to the recipient.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday May 18, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville. Drew Mentzer will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
