MaryLou Burgoyne, 81, a life-long resident of Georgetown, Ill., passed away at 9:50 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at Hawthorne Inn, Danville.
On June 16, 1935, MaryLou was born, the sixth child out of seven children to Ernie and Mabel Winland in Catlin, Ill.
She was united in marriage to Roy G. Burgoyne on Nov. 1, 1953, at First Church of Christ in Georgetown until his passing on July 16, 2012.
MaryLou started her career in the florist business and took design and bookkeeping courses. She had a flair for interior decorating, which was apparent to everyone in her home and family business, Burgoyne's Flower Shop & Greenhouses, which started in 1909. She and Roy worked side-by-side for over 48 years. Their legacy of a hometown-run flower shop still is being carried on by Flowers On Main in Georgetown.
MaryLou loved hosting and entertaining family and friends, especially when she could cook a meal for her loved ones at home. She was a member of Fairview Church, where she sung in the choir. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and was an avid Illini fan. She also was a member of Georgetown American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
She was an enormous part of her grandchildren's lives from being able to babysit them and create long-lasting traditions when they were young. She continued attending their school and sporting events and supporting them. She had the great pleasure of becoming a great-grandmother as MaryLou loved babies. She cherished all the times she spent with her family and they will greatly miss her.
She leaves behind her twin daughters, Darla "Dee" Marie Ardis of Peoria, Ill., and Karla (Ron) Howard of Georgetown; her sister, Eileen Vines of Hoopeston, Ill.; her grandchildren, Philip Sporcich of Springfield, Ill., Brock Ardis and Cydney Ardis, both of Peoria; her step-grandchildren, Mandy (Jon) Wagner of Marion, Ill., and Jennifer (Hector) Pulgar of Knoxville, Tenn; her step-great-grandchildren, Jonathan Wagner and Ellie Pulgar; and many extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her four brothers and one sister.
A celebration of MaryLou's life will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West St., Georgetown, with Pastor James Blue officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, May 15, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery.
