HARTFORD CITY - Mary Frances Vollmer, 82, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017 at her daughter's residence.
She was born in Peoria, on Feb. 22, 1935, to Emery E. Boyer and Ruth Frances (Waters) Boyer. Both parents preceded her in death.
Mary graduated from Perrysville High School in 1952.
She married LaVon Beryle Vollmer on November 9, 1952 in Kentland, Ind.
Mary moved to Blackford County from Covington to stay with daughter in November of 2016.
She had retired from Olin Corporation (Flexel Corporation) in 1987. She was the first female cellophane slitter.
Mary was a member of New Century Christian Church in Veedersburg. She was a pillar to her community and a godly person. She loved to sing and sang in the church choir and was a song leader. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and had a very giving soul. She enjoyed word searches, sewing and gardening. She made the best "Red Velvet Cake" it was prize winning. She had also played on the Coopers Chapel Softball Team in her younger years. She was always on the go, smiling and whistling.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Beryle Vollmer of Veedersburg; son, Terry Lee (wife, Jenise) Vollmer of Kingman, Ind.; daughter, Starla S. (husband, John) Elliott of Hartford City; four grandchildren, one deceased grandchild and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Julie (husband, Bill) Harper of Covington; several nieces and nephews.
She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne Boyer, Roy Boyer and sister, Ann Denny.
Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Calvary Christian Lighthouse Church, 2101 N. Walnut St., Hartford City, with visitation being 3-4 p.m. at the church with Rev. Ferrell Long officiating.
Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington, Ind.
