Martha Diana Buchanan, 67, of Georgetown, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at her home. She was born June 25, 1949, in Dayton, Ohio, to Robert C. and Freeda Louise (Brown) Buchanan.
She is survived by her father, Robert C. "Bob" Buchanan of Boonville, Ind.; siblings, David (Faye) Buchanan of Newburgh, Ind., Rebecca (Gary) Viola of Fair Haven, Mich., Paul (Danette) Buchanan of Beaverton, Ore., and Jim (Arla) Buchanan of Havana; uncle, Thomas (Kay) Buchanan of Fork, Md.; aunts, Betty Gay Lowe of Greensburg, Ky., Jane Roution of Campbellsville, Ky., and Esther Jordan of Clarksville, Ohio; good friend, Jim Crook of Olivet; special cousin, Debbie Jones of Wilmington, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her beloved cat, Snickers. She was preceded in death by her mother.
Martha graduated from the first nursing class at Olivet Nazarene University in 1971. She then moved to the Danville area where she pursued her career in nursing. Martha was a registered nurse, working for a few years at Lakeview Hospital in Danville and then more than 30 years at the VA Illiana Healthcare Systems in Danville. After her retirement, she also served as a school nurse in the Georgetown School District.
Martha was a member of Olivet Nazarene Church in Olivet for 45 years. She loved to sing and was an avid scrap booker. Martha enjoyed crafting, traveling and she loved cats.
Per her wishes, Martha will be cremated and a Celebration of her Life will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Olivet Nazarene Church, 5054 Olivet Rd, Georgetown. Her brothers, Pastor Jim and Pastor Paul Buchanan, will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to the Olivet Nazarene University Scholarship Fund in care of Olivet Nazarene Church.
