On July 6, 2017, Marilyn went to be with God and her mother, Betty, in Heaven. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by family. She was born Nov. 14, 1951, to Betty and Clarence Ferris, in Danville.
She married Kenneth Cox on Dec. 31, 1974.
She is survived by her husband, Ken; daughter, Kim (Toby) Spangler of Danville; step-son, Ken (Maria) Cox; step-daughter, Kelly (Scott) Hendren; several grandchildren including Rylan and Nolan Spangler, of Danville and several great-grandchildren; one brother, Mike (Debbie) Ferris of Danville; and father, Clarence Ferris of Danville. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty.
Early in her career, she was the secretary for the Chief of Police in Danville and Secretary for the Criminal Investigative Unit for Vermilion County Sheriff's Department. When she moved to Arizona, she was Administrative Assistant to the AZ Highway Patrol. She then started as secretary at Arizona State University and moved her way up to the head of the computer department. She was in charge of setting up the entire computer system for the university.
In her spare time, she loved to spend time with her grandsons, working on crafts and also working in the yard.
Marilyn was diagnosed with Alzheimers several years ago. She remained at home and was cared for by her husband, daughter and son-in-law.
As per her wishes, she will be cremated. No services will be held.
