Marie Irene Jones, 92, of Hoopeston, passed away at 3:58 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She was born Nov. 7, 1924, in rural Rankin, the daughter of Robert and Lula (Glass) Thompson. She married George Edmund Jones on Aug. 11, 1947, in Danville. He preceded her in death on July 11, 2007.
She is survived by one sister, Louella (Don) Hennette of Westville; one brother, Buddy Lee (Shirley) Thompson of Westville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one infant brother.
Marie worked at Gulbransen for several years and later became a homemaker. She attended the Chestnut Street Church of Christ in Hoopeston and was a member of the Hoopeston VFW Women's Auxiliary. Marie enjoyed crocheting, playing Euchre and Rummikub and square dancing with her husband, George. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work and donating lots of afghans.
A visitation will be held 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at the funeral home, with Rev. Sid Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Rossville Cemetery in Rossville.
