Margaretta's Story

Text size

With sadness and a heavy heart we say goodbye to our beloved mother Margaretta M. Starwalt, 84, of Westville. She passed away at her home Oct. 8, with her daughters Kathy and Carolyn by her side.
She was born March 20, 1932, in Cave-in-Rock, the daughter of Orval and Kathryn (Burklow) Lampert. She married the love of her life, Glenn Starwalt, Feb. 2, 1953; he precedes her in death.
She is survived by her children, Steve (Donna) Starwalt of Danville, Darrel (Karla) Starwalt of Georgetown, Kathy (Randy) Pichon of Danville, David Starwalt of Tilton, Carolyn (Wayne) Campbell of Minton, Mich., Donny (Donna) Starwalt of Lovington and Terrie (Chris) Chambliss; two very special adopted children, Tony (Debra) and Jordan Barney, her best friend of 40-plus years, Carol (Terry) Barney all of Westville; her sister, Melva (Silas) Morgan of DuQuoin; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Glenna (Arnold) Hooks, a brother Wendell Lampert and sister Alma Jackson.
On warm sunny days she spent a great deal of time tending to and pulling weeds in her vegetable and flower gardens or sitting on the patio watching the traffic go by on Georgetown Road. She loved canning, working crossword puzzles, playing card games and Angry Birds on her iPad. She loved spending the holidays with her children and grandchildren who gathered to eat the best homemade noodles, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. Always there to lend an ear or give motherly advice no matter how busy she was.
We will miss you dearly, Mother, and love you enough. Until we see you again, say hello to Dad and Glenna for us.
The family would like to thank Dr. Labayog and all the nurses and volunteer Judy Laker at the Bobette Steely Hegeler Cancer Center. Dr. Naveed Sadiq for his kind and compassionate care over the years. Teri Reffett of IMH Hospice.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. We ask that any memorial donations be made in her honor to the Cancer Center. Condolences: www.rortvedtfuneralservices.com.
