Marcus Leon "Marco" Brooks was born to the late Gene Herman Sr. and Louise Irene (Mitchell) Brooks in Danville, Ill., on July 12, 1960. He made his transition at the age of 56.
Marcus attended Danville public schools. He graduated from Danville High School and served in the United States Army. He was an honorably discharged veteran.
After decades of courting, Marcus married his sweetheart, Vivian Reed, on Sept. 14, 2007.
Marcus attended Mt. Olive Christian Church. He loved to cook. He was a natural-born chef. He loved going fishing and hanging out with friends and family. His smile and humor will be greatly missed.
Marcus was employed at various corporations: Bohn, Danville Care and the Veterans Affairs of Danville were the most recent.
Marcus leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Vivian (Reed) Brooks; two sons, DeMarco Jackson and Darryl Mason; two daughters, Markayla Hale and Arianna McKinney; stepchildren, Shauntae Reed of Kentucky, and Nikita Reed, Robert Reed, Shavar Reed, all of Danville; nine brothers, Everette Eugene Allen of Milwaukee, Wis., Gene Herman (Chana) Brooks Jr. of Avondale, Ga., Deon (Tenisha) Brooks of Phoenix, Ariz., Terry (Oshia) Carter of Anderson, Ind., Tony (Thelma) Carter of Champaign, and Derrick Brooks, Gerald Carter, Orlando (Dianne) Carter and Jerry (Timyra) Carter all of Danville; and five sisters, Carla Gadson of Gary, Ind., and Andrea Carter, Nicole Randle, Evelyn Carter, and Susan (Edward) Givens, all of Danville; two special cousins, Christina Brooks and Laura Brooks; special aunt, Susie (Wilson) Doswell of Champaign; two special friends, Vincent Beard and William Board; his grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Marcus preceded in death by his parents and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A Celebration of Life will commence at noon Monday, Jan. 9, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Pastor Frank McCullough. Interment will be at Danville National Cemetery.
