Lillie's Story

Lillie B. Young Westley, 89, peacefully passed into eternity on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017 at 8:55 p.m. at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center surrounded by her children.
Lillie B. Young Westley was born on Sept. 2, 1928, in Covington, Tenn.; the second eldest of Ashley and Gussie Young. She grew up with three other siblings, Mildred Washington survives.
Lillie B. Young Westley married Benjamin Westley in 1950. To that union were nine children: Benjamin Westley, Randy (Vickie) Westley, Eric (Renee) Westley, Rose (Bobby) Keys, Carolyn Denise (Lee) Jones and Mary (Scott) Brown and two step-children: Doris Kyles and Donald Westley. She was blessed with 32 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Lillie B. Westley graduated from County High School in May 1948, in Tennessee, and immediately earned her LPN certification in 1949 from the Wayne School of Nursing in Chicago. She was employed may years as an LPN and later worked for Red Cross. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Lillie Westley had a servant's heart and anointed hands which allowed her to be a blessing to so many. She was committed to serving her family and her community; she labored for years as a caregiver for senior citizens, a volunteer for District 118, a volunteer for Danville Election Commission and a community activist which transported registered voters to/from the election polls. She also took care of the residents in Soldier's Home; during hurting and bereaving times she would walk the neighborhood collecting money to send flowers to lift the spirits of those that were going through. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, being a homemaker and spoiling her grandchildren. She fed generations and was well known and will always be remembered for her famous Westley Burgers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Benjamin Westley; brothers, Wallace and Willie Young; and her children: Stevie Westley, Elaine Westley-Rudy and Hope Maria Westley-Eaton.
The funeral service for Lillie B. Westley will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave., Danville, with Pastor Bobby R. Keys officiating. The visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until noon with the service immediately following. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Danville. Arrangements are being handled by Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville.
