FAIRMOUNT - Larry L. Finley, 79, of rural Fairmount, passed away at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Larry was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Danville, to Ross Arthur and Opal Lucile Biggs Finley.
He married Carolyn Jean DeNeal on July 26, 1959 at Walnut Corner Church, Bismarck. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Brad (Christine) Finley of Peoria, and Kurt Finley of Champaign; two daughters: Cheri (Tim) Welsh of Catlin, and Darla (Hank) Siwicke of Peoria; one sister: Doris Walker of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and six grandchildren: Tanner Welsh, Max Finley, Blake Finley, Sadie Siwicke, Sawyer Siwicke, and Sydney Siwicke.
Larry graduated from Catlin High School in 1954, earned his BS in Education from Eastern Illinois University in 1959, and earned his master's in education from Illinois State University in 1965. He served in the Army reserve from 1954 to 1962. He taught Industrial Arts at Maroa High School, A.A. Stagg High School, and retired from Oakwood High School after 32 years. He was a member of Illinois Drafting Educators Association having served on the board, member of Catlin Church of Christ, Kingdom Builders Sunday School Class, Danville Barbershop Chorus, and the Community Theater Groups. He enjoyed woodworking and "fix it" projects at home with his dog, Kirby, by his side.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Catlin Church of Christ with Darren Johnson officiating. Burial in Oakridge Cemetery, Catlin. Visitation 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Catlin Church of Christ.
