Kattie's Story

Kattie L. Thompson 74, of Danville, transitioned to be with the Lord on July 22, 2017 at Hawthorne Rehab Center.
She was born June 26, 1943 in Danville, the daughter of Finus and Mabel Dixon Anglin.
Kattie was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert H.W. "Bobby" Thompson on Feb. 22, 1969, in Danville. Together they celebrated 38 wonderful years of marriage. He preceded her in death Oct. 12, 2006.
She was employed at GE/Valmont for 28 years and then attended Cosmetology School. After graduation, she opened a beauty salon and remained a cosmetologist for more than 20 years.
Kattie was a phenomenal woman. She took pride in herself and her home. She was known to many as "Chaka Khan". Katie loved decorating and making floral arrangements. Everyone was always welcome at Kattie's and would receive a hot home cooked meal.
Kattie enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed being with her daughter and family. She devoted her life to taking care of her family. Kattie loved the holidays, cooking for parties and entertaining her family and friends. Kattie was truly the matriarch, a best friend, a nurturer, counselor, the ruler, and the protector of her family. She will be greatly missed.
She was a Past Illustrious Commandress Sudan Court #19 in Champaign.
Kattie leaves behind her one and only loving daughter, Tonya L. Davis and her adopted daughter, Rose A. Reed, whom took exceptional care of mother. Rose called "Mama Kattie" her baby and Rose was her right-hand girl. Three grandsons, Alan, Daryon, and Randy (Sugarbear); her great-grandchildren Sarai, Getavion(Tae) whom lived with her, D'Myah and D'Maryon; her only sister Armenthia Anglin; her adopted sister/first cousin, Imogene Pugh of Muncie, Ind.; her coffee buddy, Joe, who would do anything she asked; *Special friends, Carolyn and David Johnson of Champaign and Hallie Hill, Glenna Westly, Libby Cloyd both of Danville; her nephew, Keith Anglin; and other relatives and numerous friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A Celebration of Life will commence at 12 noon Tuesday, Aug. 1, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 North Bowman Ave., Danville. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the time of service. A Public viewing will commence from 1-6 p.m. Monday, July 31, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 East Williams Street, Danville. The family is scheduled to be present from 4-6 p.m. with Daughter of Isis Rites at 5 p.m. Pastor Thomas W. Miller Eulogist. Pastor Denny Davis Service Expeditor. Burial Spring Hill Cemetery.
